The educational goal of this major is to systemize the theories of elementary Korean language education and to enhance the specialization of Korean language teachers. For this purpose, students will investigate issues such as educational curricula and teach material development and teaching-learning methods and evaluation methods of elementary Korean language education by researching the characteristics of the Korean language and education as a tool for communication and learning and base for linguistic cognition capability, and by critically accommodating academic performance in the areas of communication theories, Korean language, children’s literature, classic literature, and contemporary literature. Students will be led to find the educational application method and academically systematize it by analyzing educational phenomena and Korean language data in the domains of listening, speaking, reading, writing, culture, civilization, grammar, and media that compose Elementary Korean Language Education in the context of learner and social culture.
The social Education major is aimed improving the specialization of teachers who nurture democratic citizens through overall understanding of society. This major is composed of an educational curriculum that will enable students to understand the various aspects of society, including democracy, economic life, politics and legal life, history, geography, and multiculturalism, from a wide range of perspectives. Therefore, students can select various educational curricula for learning in accordance with their interests. In addition, it will make contributions towards the improvement of the capabilities and specialization of teachers to teach elementary social science for which politics, law and human rights, economy, social culture, geography, and Korean history have been integrated.
Students will be led to understand content related to the backgrounds of educational curricula of elementary math education to seek the methods that can be helpful in researching theories of learning math and improving teaching methods at educational institutions.
The elementary Science Education major is aimed at cultivation of advanced science education personnel equipped with specialization for assessment of the diverse problems of elementary science education in the field, and the presentation of solutions thereof. In order to cultivate specialized personnel equipped with effective elementary science teaching ability and on-site application ability for science education theories, a focus will be placed on cultivation of the ability to understand and investigate the basic concepts of science, as well as practice theories and research methods of science education.
This major seeks to find answers to the question of ‘How to teach English at elementary schools?’ presented to elementary school teachers. For this purpose, students will take 2 requisite courses including ‘Understanding of English Linguistics’ and ‘Elementary English Education Theory’ as the theoretical foundation of English content education and pedagogy. In addition, students will take 7 of 12 courses, that is 2 courses including ‘Theories of English Grammar’ to improve proper English expression, and 2 courses including ‘Understanding English Culture’ to encourage appropriate communication for the various cultures of English speakers, including 8 courses ‘Theories of Elementary English Educational Curriculum’ and ‘Theories of Elementary English Teaching Materials’ aimed at nurturing the ability to research and analyze English classes in schools. Through these courses, students will learn qualitative and quantitative research methods for elementary English education. Accordingly, it is the aim of this major to lead students to be equipped with balanced knowledge for enhancement of English communication ability, which is the ultimate goal of English education.
Educational administration and policies Students will be led to analyze educational administration theories, organizational theory, personnel administration theory, institutional theory, and theories on educational methods and policies in depth. Moreover, students will have the opportunity to consider the educational administration and policies of South Korea and realistic problems at school sites based on such theoretical analysis, and discuss and research means of solving such issues with a focus on cultivating competent educational leaders equipped with high-level ideologies and philosophies equipped with theoretical and practical capabilities.
This major aims to cultivate ‘specialists in educational curricula and teaching’ by investigating the theories and practical aspects of learning, educational curricula, teaching methods, and educational evaluations. In addition, students will be led to investigate, execute, and research planned (design), practiced (execution), and realized (generation) educational curricula by reflecting the characteristics of curriculum education for future education. Moreover, the unified capabilities of the teachers in educational curriculum-teachings-evaluation (recording) will be fortified.
Students will be led to cultivate the ability of personality guidance, ultimately by completing diverse counseling related subjects in order for them to be equipped with specialized knowledge and practical ability for child counseling.
The major in elementary dance education is aimed at inducing qualitative improvement of the dance education capabilities of school teachers interested in elementary school dance education by seeking systematic educational methods based on the acquisition of theoretical and practical abilities in dancing. As such, this major will strive to cultivate elementary dance education specialists capable of leading future dance education by nurturing and enabling them to utilize their creative and practical dance model research and development capabilities.
This major is aimed at fostering of the attributes and capabilities required of integrated classroom teachers as integrated education has been systematized as general education for special-needs children. For this purpose, students will be led to understand the characteristic educational demands of special-needs learners including those with developmental retardation, emotional and behavioral disorders, learning disorders, sensory and physical handicaps, and gifted children, and to nurture research abilities in special education by equipping them with specialized knowledge and functions to deliver relevant instructions to such learners.
The major in Gukak (traditional Korean music) education is aimed at nurturing Gukak teaching and learning and research methods that can be utilized at educational institutions with a focus on improvement of practical skills of individual major and common practical skills in order to nurture Gukak educational specialists equipped with practical abilities.
The major in traditional arts and crafts was established to nurture specialists in elementary traditional arts and crafts education, and is operated with a focus on practical skill-oriented educational curriculum by extracting the elements of traditional arts and crafts that can be applied to elementary schools. The domain of traditional crafts will deal with craft techniques and materials related to everyday life garments.
Creative information convergence education is an educational method that offers a convergence of the latest information communication technology education, robotic utilization education, and robotic technology education. As such, it is aimed at leading students to learn the latest information communication technology and cultivating educators capable of instructing invention by grafting such technology to robots in order to enhance the creativity of students at educational institutions.
The major in global multicultural convergence education strives to provide the specialized educational capabilities of on-site teachers in global education and multicultural education in the current era of globalization and multiculturalism. For this purpose, the course will stress specialized knowledge in global citizenry, cultural diversity, and multicultural education in the era of globalization, and the ability to practice such knowledge. In particular, this major will implement a course for culturing specialists in multicultural society.
The artificial intelligence (AI) convergence education major is aimed at nurturing leading teachers capable of providing creative and future-oriented education to children who will be living in an era of hyperconnectivity and artificial intelligence. For this purpose, teachers will be taught the diverse basic knowledge and educational methods necessary in artificial intelligence based on math, science, and computer majors, as well as methods of convergence with artificial intelligence.
In order to accomplish the goals of music education, teachers will be led not only to cultivate their basic musical attributes, capabilities, and attitudes, but also to acquire abilities in areas including research, teaching, and evaluation as specialists in elementary music education. Moreover, they will research and practice specialized knowledge and teaching techniques for diverse music educational methods and media, be equipped with appropriate attitudes and value systems for the habituation of music in daily life, and seek efficient learning activities in various educational institutions.
Students will be led to analyze overall issues related to innovative future education, including history, culture, systems, and policies of innovative future schools. Based on such analysis, students will enhance their understanding of innovative future schools and innovative future education and seek and discuss means of changing the current school education system. Moreover, this major will focus on cultivating competent educational leaders equipped with the theoretical and practical capabilities necessary to realize innovative future education through the aforementioned activities.
